Support for Victims:

Listening/ by phone/ in person/ any way & every way to the victim
Assisting the victim with Paperwork
Referrals- We have a Brochure!
Preparation for Court (education about Justice System and facilitate their role in seeing Justice achieved)
Accompany victims to court and/or meetings with Prosecutors
Support/Defend the victims positions as appropriate

The Victims Coordinator works with District Attorneys and Investigators, and maintains network contacts with Law Enforcement Agencies, Court Personnel, Community Supervision & Corrections Officers.

Victim Assistance also provides support to victims in many ways; through Crime Victims Compensation Program, Support Groups, Task Forces and Councils. Milam County Victim Coordinator has developed an Anti-Domestic Violence training class, called Options, that is held once a month. (At this time we can only accommodate victims with active cases before the courts.)

Victims Assistance also offers educational opportunities for the general public through public presentations (e.g. Teen Dating Violence Prevention info)

In the years since the Texas Crime Victims' Bill of Rights was passed in 1985, much has happened in our ability to assist victims. We have witnessed enormous increases in victims' rights and services in the state.
